Herzel polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Herzel-Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 188). The work was performed for the first time on February 3, 1857 in the Zum Sperl dance hall in Vienna .

Remarks

The polka was written in the carnival of 1857 for a charity ball for the benefit of the poor in Vienna's Leopoldstadt and was premiered on the occasion of this event. For Johann Strauss it was a home game , as it were, as he himself was a citizen of this part of Vienna. Of course, he himself directed the performances on that ball evening, which increased his popularity with his neighbors and friends of Leopoldstadt. His commitment to such charity balls was one of the reasons for his appointment as the Imperial and Royal Court Ball Music Director in 1863.

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 3 minutes and 3 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
