The heart flagellate ( Phacus longicauda ) is a protist species from the genus Phacus . It occurs in stagnant waters.
features
Phacus longicauda is 85 to 115 micrometers long. The cells are flattened and completely rigid. They have a stinger at their rear end that is as long as the body. The cell membrane is firm and has smooth, raised longitudinal ridges. These converge in two centers at the mouth of the scourge sac. The scourge has a screwy band of unilateral hairs. The eye spot is large and bright red. There are numerous chloroplast discs present. The cells swim slowly rotating because they are easily twisted in themselves.
