The Hess Creek is an approximately 80 km long left tributary of the Yukon River in central Alaska .
It forms in the interior on the west flank of the Tanana Hills from the confluence of the North Fork and South Fork Hess Creek . The Hess Creek flows westward and flows into the Yukon River 29 km northeast of Rampart .
It is named after the prospector Mike Hess, who found gold on the river in 1892. The name of the natives for the river was documented in 1896 by CW Raymond as "Yokuchargut". WH Dall used the spelling "Yukutzcharkat" in 1870 and reported that FE Ketchum had named the river "Whymper River" in 1866 after his friend Frederick Whymper, a participant in an expedition of the Western Union Telegraph Company .
