Hessian apple wine route
The Hessian Apple Wine Route is a 40 km long hiking route in Hesse. It runs from Steinheim bei Hanau via Wilhelmsbad , Maintal , Hochstadt , Bergen-Enkheim and Seckbach to the Frankfurt district of Sachsenhausen . The aim of the association Apfelweinstrasse e. V. initiated and operated street is to promote the customs around the apple wine . Along the streets there are various orchards with apple trees as well as wineries for the production of apple wine. Apple cultivation in the region is traced back to the Romans .
According to the association, the street was founded on April 27, 1958, but according to another source in cooperation with the tourist offices of Bergen-Enkheim, Frankfurt, Maintal and Hanau only in 1972. The inauguration ceremony was celebrated with a pageant from Steinheim to Sachsenhausen.
The road's distinguishing mark is a stylized bembel . There are many taverns along the street where cider is traditionally served from this jug.
An apple wine festival has been held on the street every year since 1983. Honorary prizes have been awarded on this occasion since 1985, the first honorary prize winner was Frank Lehmann from Hessischer Rundfunk . In 2012 Petra Roth received an award.
The road is not to be confused with the Hessian apple wine and orchard route , a cycle path between Frankfurt am Main, Giessen and Offenbach am Main .
