Hessian mountain country
Hessisches Bergland , also Hessisches Berg- und Senkenland , is a name for a richly forested low mountain range between the Rhenish Slate Mountains and the western edge of the Thuringian Basin , which is largely located in Hesse . The Hessian Uplands is part of both the Central European Central Uplands and the Rhine-Weser watershed . The Hessian Uplands corresponds to the geological structural unit of the Hessian Basin in the broader sense, since geologically younger layers of the Zechstein and the Buntsandstein , in places even younger rocks of the shell limestone , the lower Jura and the Tertiary have been preserved.
The Hesse Highlands divided nature spatially in the West Hessian mountain and lowering land (main unit group 34) and the volcanic embossed East Hesse Highlands (main unit group 35) by the (to the former counted) West Hesse Depression are separated. While the West Hessian mountain and valley land runs entirely on Hessian soil, the East Hessian mountainous region extends in foothills to Lower Saxony , Bavaria and Thuringia .
