The Heterolobosea are a group of amoeboid protozoa and belong to the Excavata .

features

The representatives are amoeba and have a heterotrophic diet . They have eruptive pseudopodia . The amoeboid form predominates, but flagellate stages also occur. These usually have two or four flagella arranged in parallel . A genus consists of obligatory flagellates. The flagellate stages are rarely able to ingest food; if so, then with a pit-shaped cytostome (cell mouth).

The mitosis runs closed with internal spindle apparatus . The cristae are flattened, often disc-shaped. Dictyosomes are not known.

Systematics

The Heterolobosea are placed with the Excavata . They were temporarily divided into three groups, namely the Vahlkampfiidae , the Gruberellidae and the Acrasidae . Newer systematics summarize them in a group Tetramitia and only compare them with the monogeneric Pharyngomonadidae as sister taxons.
