Heuksando is a South Korean island and archipelago in the Yellow Sea 92.7 km southwest of the coast near the city of Mokpo , Jeollanam-do , South Korea , from where it can be reached by ferry. The island covers 19.7 km² and has several mountains: Munamsan (about 400 m), Gitdaebong (about 378 m), Seonyubong (300 m), Sangrabong (227 m). It has been in the Sinan County administrative area since 1969 . On the island live 3133 inhabitants (2001) in two villages, Jinni and Yeri . The latter larger is a former whaling site. Heuksando is surrounded by several smaller islands, 10 uninhabited and 89 inhabited. With them, it is part of the Dadohae National Marine Park .
