Hieronymus de Moravia

Hieronymus de Moravia , German Hieronymus von Moravia , († after 1271 ) was a Dominican and a music theorist of the Middle Ages.

Life

Jerome's nickname suggests that he came from Moravia . He probably lived and worked in the Dominican monastery on Rue Saint-Jacques in Paris . He wrote the Tractatus de Musica , an encyclopedia of the musical knowledge of his time in 48 chapters. He had acquired the knowledge incorporated therein at the University of Paris ; they are mainly based on Boethius , Guido von Arezzo and Johannes von Afflighem .
