The High Court , the German in the local environment as a High Court referred, is a court in Namibia and the first trial court in constitutional matters . It forms the second highest instance in the country after the Supreme Court . The court has its seat in the capital Windhoek .

It is legally based on Section 80 of the Constitution of Namibia and the drafting in the Government Gazette, No. 84 of October 8, 1990 .

tasks

The Supreme Court deals with all civil and criminal matters as well as constitutional issues for the entire country. It also serves as a labor court for the immediate judicial district.

It also serves as a court of appeal and appeal for the lower courts and refers to the Supreme Court.

Judge

The court is headed by a presiding judge, currently Petrus Damaseb as primus inter pares . It also has as many judges as are appointed by the Namibian President on the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission . As of April 2011 there are 11 additional judges.
