Hilda Borgström (1901)

Hilda Teresia Borgström (born October 13, 1871 in Stockholm ; † January 2, 1953 there ) was a Swedish actress.

life and career

Hilda Borgström was one of the most successful Swedish actresses of her generation, having originally trained as a ballet dancer at the Royal Opera in her hometown Stockholm. However, she switched to acting as early as 1890. As a result, she celebrated numerous theater successes and was seen, among other things, in leading roles at the Royal Dramatic Theater . Borgström made her first film as early as 1912 and here, too, became a popular actress in early Swedish cinema. She played the leading roles in Victor Sjöström's influential silent films Ingeborg Holm (1913) and Der Fuhrmann des Todes (1921).

Hilda Bergström withdrew from the theater stage as early as 1938 after developing increasingly severe stage fright . After that she concentrated exclusively on her activities as an acting teacher at the Dramatens elevskola as well as on her film appearances. In total, she played in over 80 films by 1949, although she appeared mainly in supporting roles from the 1930s due to her age. She starred alongside Ingrid Bergman in The Face of a Woman (1938) and played in several early works by Ingmar Bergman . She also acted as the narrator of the short film Tomten in 1941 , which is repeated every Christmas on Swedish television.

For her acting career, Borgström was honored by the Swedish royal family with the Order of Litteris et Artibus . Hilda Borgström was never married, but she did have a daughter. She died in Stockholm in 1953 at the age of 81.
