Hilda Schärf
Hilda Schärf (born April 22, 1886 in Unterrohr ; † June 21, 1956 in Vienna ; née Hammer ) was the wife of the Austrian politician and Federal President Adolf Schärf (1890-1965).
Life
Hilda Hammer was employed by the post office in Vienna from 1904. During a visit to her family in the summer of 1910, she met Adolf Schärf, a law student who was four years her junior. Both married on October 2, 1915 in Vienna City Hall . The marriage resulted in two children: son Reinhold and daughter Martha Kyrle , long-time president and protector of the Austrian UNICEF committee.
Like her husband, Hilda Schärf was politically at home in the Social Democrats. After the end of the Second World War, in 1947, she became the first chairwoman of the Viennese regional organization of Volkshilfe .
She is buried next to her husband in the presidential crypt in Vienna's central cemetery . A home for assisted living in Klagenfurt, opened in 1958, bore her name; it was closed on July 7, 2006.
