Hilde Loewe-Flatter , originally Hilda Löwi, (* July 8, 1895 in Vienna , † April 15, 1976 in London ) was an Austrian pianist and composer who worked under the pseudonym Henry Love .

Life

Hilde Loewe was born in Vienna as the daughter of the Jewish businessman Ernst Löwi and his wife Szeréne. She completed her studies at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with distinction. Initially, Hilde Loewe worked as a pianist until she increasingly turned to piano accompaniment. One of her most important artistic connections was the collaboration with the castle actor Raoul Aslan , with whom she gave concerts and chanson evenings. It was Aslan who encouraged her to compose, which is why Loewe dedicated her first published composition, Das alten Lied, to him, which the Viennese Bohème Verlag published in 1927. This year Loewe also chose her male pseudonym Henry Love at the suggestion of her publisher . From 1928 to 1932 Henry Love composed other successful chansons and wrote some of the lyrics for them.

In 1934 Hilde Loewe married the Viennese stage designer and painter Joseph Otto Flatter, with whom she emigrated to Great Britain in the same year. After the end of the war, she received a work permit there as a repetitor, choir director and piano accompanist, and in 1947 she was finally granted British citizenship. Loewe-Flatter increasingly withdrew from concert life, except for a few appearances. Loewe-Flatter died in London in March 1976 at the age of 81.
