Hilde Mattauch

Hilde Fanny Mattauch (born April 7, 1910 in Kaiserslautern ; died April 2, 2002 in Buenos Aires ) was a German - Argentine opera singer with a soprano voice .

Mattauch was trained at the Conservatory in Kaiserslautern and at the Mannheim Opera School. Her first successful appearances were mainly in Kaiserslautern, but also in Mannheim, Speyer , Wiesbaden and Munich . In 1932 she became a member of the Pfalzoper ensemble .

After the seizure of power , however, she was no longer allowed to perform due to her Jewish origins and emigrated to England in 1934 , where she met the doctor Dr. Arthur Grünstein married. After the sudden death of her husband, however, she returned to Kaiserslautern, where she gave birth to her son Peter Grünstein . Because of the constantly strengthened laws against Jews, Mattauch decided to flee again in 1936. This time she fled with her mother and son, first to Lisbon in Portugal and then to Argentina in 1943.

In Argentina she managed to build a career as a chamber and opera singer under the most difficult conditions. In the following years Mattauch sang at the largest and most successful opera houses in South America .

In the 1950s she also went on concert tours to Europe. During this time they came in 1954 and 1957 after Kaiserslautern and played there among other things in Kaiserslautern .

The Hilde-Mattauch-Platz in Kaiserslautern is named after Hilde Mattauch .

Awards

In 1963 Hilde Mattauch was named the best singer in Argentina.
