Hildegard von Marchtaler

Hildegard von Marchtaler (* May 7, 1897 in Hamburg ; † September 2, 1995 there ) was a German private teacher and genealogist .

Life

Hildegard von Marchtaler was born as the daughter of Geert Seelig and his wife Henriette. In 1915 she passed a humanistic Abitur at the Wilhelm Gymnasium , where she was enrolled as an external student. She then studied history and art history at the University of Marburg , University of Würzburg and the University of Munich . She married Kurt von Marchtaler in Heilbronn , who later worked as a genealogist and private teacher. The couple, divorced in 1928, had two children.

After the divorce, Hildegard von Marchtaler moved with the children to her parents' house in Hamburg.

Works

Hildegard von Marchtaler dealt with the stories of families and companies after her return to her native town. This included the Sauber, Sloman and Gayen families and the Stülcken shipyard . She wrote the book From Alt-Hamburger Senatorenhäusern , which appeared in multiple editions. The Association for Hamburg History published it as Volume XVI of its publications .

Hildegard von Marchtaler was particularly interested in genealogy. She made the family tables for the heritage books of the Hamburg State Archives . She also published volumes 9 to 12 of the Hamburg Gender Book as editions of the German Gender Book, which are exclusively dedicated to Hamburg families. She also wrote many individual publications.

Honors

Hildegard von Marchtaler was a corresponding or honorary member of the Herold and the Hamburg Genealogical Society . As an honorary member of the Association for Hamburg History, she received the Lappenberg Medal.
