Hilmar Oddsson

Hilmar Oddsson (born January 19, 1957 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic director , screenwriter , film producer and musician .

Life

Hilmar Oddsson was born in 1957 as the first child of the playwright and theater director Oddur Björnsson (1932–2011) and his first wife Borghildur Thors (* 1933). He has a younger sister (* 1958).

He was already active in the theater club during his school days at the Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík . Until 1986 he studied at the University of Television and Film Munich .

This was followed by his first directorial work, for which he had also written the scripts. In 1995 Hilmar Oddsson shot a biography of the Icelandic composer Jón Leifs with Tears of Stone . In addition to his feature films, Hilmar Oddsson contributed to the creation of numerous television reports, video clips and commercials. From 2004 to 2006 he was chairman of the Icelandic Directors' Guild (Samtök kvikmyndaleikstjóra).

In addition to his work as a filmmaker, Hilmar Oddsson is also a musician. Since 1973 he has been active in the band Melchior , where he is responsible for lyrics, arrangements, keyboards, guitar and vocals. With the band he released three albums. He composed the film music for his film Eins og skepnan deyr . In 1989 Hilmar Oddsson released the solo album Og augun opnast . From 1998 to 2006 he was a member of the board of the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra .

Hilmar Oddsson is the dean of the Icelandic film school Kvikmyndaskóli Íslands .

His marriage to the actress Þórey Sigþórsdóttir had two children, including the actress Hera Hilmarsdóttir .
