Hilmar Ospelt

Hilmar Ospelt (born May 6, 1929 in Vaduz ; † February 22, 2020 there ) was a Liechtenstein politician ( FBP ). From 1980 to 1986 he was Liechtenstein's deputy head of government.

biography

Hilmar Ospelt was born in May 1929 as the eldest child of the regional geometer Hermann Ospelt (1900–1979) and his wife Ida (née Amann) and grew up with five siblings. One of his five siblings was Werner Ospelt, who later became a member of the state parliament . He attended the Collegium Marianum in Vaduz and graduated there in 1949. From 1949 to 1952, Ospelt studied botany, physics and chemistry at the University of Basel , where he became a member of the AKV Rauracia student association in the Swiss Student Union . He then completed secondary education in St. Gallen by 1954 . From 1955 he worked as a teacher at the Vaduz secondary school for 17 years.

Ospelt had been a member of the Vaduz municipal council since 1963. From 1969 to 1972 he was deputy mayor of the municipality. In 1972 he was elected mayor, replacing Meinrad Ospelt . Furthermore, from 1974 he was a member of the state parliament of the Principality of Liechtenstein . In July 1980 he resigned both mandates to become deputy head of government in the government of Hans Brunhart . Josef Frommelt moved up for him in the state parliament. Arthur Konrad became the new mayor. Ospelt himself was deputy head of government from 1980 to 1986. In this function he was responsible for the sports, economics, transport and justice departments.

In 1987 Ospelt was appointed Princely Councilor by Prince Franz Josef II .
