The Hilti Art Foundation is a foundation in the Principality of Liechtenstein that aims to collect works of art. Since 2015, selected objects have been presented in an exhibition building (the “White Cube”) in Vaduz that is directly connected to the Liechtenstein Art Museum .

The Foundation

The family that owns Hilti AG has been collecting works of art since the 1970s and this collection has been run by the Hilti Art Foundation since the 1990s. The collecting activity is aimed at the period between approx. 1880 and 1945 ( classical modernism ) as well as art after the Second World War up to the present day. The focus is on works of art of expressionism , cubism , futurism and surrealism . The collection comprises a total of around 200 paintings, sculptures, sculptures and other objects - including works by Pablo Picasso , Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Alberto Giacometti .

The "white cube"

The Hilti Art Foundation and the Liechtenstein Art Museum have been working together since it opened in 2000 (e.g. loans, special exhibitions). In June 2011, construction work finally started on the creation of the Hilti Art Foundation's own exhibition building, which was attached directly to the existing art museum. The building designed by the Basel architects Meinrad Morger and Fortunat Dettli has a cubic shape and a facade made of ground and polished concrete that appears white. The Hilti Art Foundation has an exhibition area of ​​around 400 square meters, while the exhibition and sales areas of a watch and jewelry store are located on two floors. The building was opened in April 2015.

Exhibitions

In the exhibition rooms of the Hilti Art Foundation, paintings and sculptures from the late 19th century to the present are shown as part of changing exhibitions. In the first exhibition after the opening until October 9, 2016, a total of 50 selected objects - structured according to topics and epochs - were presented.
