The Ascension Church Potporanj ( Serbian Црква Вазнесења Христовог у Потпорњу Crkva Vaznesenja Hristovog u Potpornju ) is a Serbian Orthodox church in the village Potporanj in the town of Vrsac , in the district of South Banat , Vojvodina , Republic of Serbia . It belongs to the Banat eparchy . As a cultural monument of great importance, it is under monument protection (No. SK 1437).

history

The Assumption Church, built in 1766, is one of the oldest church buildings in Vojvodina after the Serbs had settled north of the Sava and Danube .

Renovation work took place in 1888 and 1934.

description

The small, low baroque hall church contains a semicircular apse . The waste facade is crowned by an onion dome . It is decorated with pilasters that frame the entrance door and with volutes on the first floor. The other facades are simply decorated with bar cornices that run under the roof.

The 19th century iconostasis was made by an unknown artist.
