description

Langdysse in Hindmosen
Map of the Djursland peninsula - Hindmose is located west of Stenvad on the edge of the former Kolindsund .

The area is rich in dolmens and in many ways forms the northern counterpart to the concentration around Nødager south of Kolindsund . The area was an island in the Neolithic. The amateur archaeologist and senior teacher Nissen from Ramten restored the Langdysse in Hindmosen in 1894, which had been placed under protection in 1887. Like many stone graves on Djursland, the complex was located near the water. Today it is surrounded by coniferous forest, but in the 19th century there were numerous fields and peat extraction. When it was built, the dolmen was on a flat hill, surrounded by marshy marshland and open water. The moor grew slowly and formed today's high moor, which mostly allows access in summer.

The south-west-north-east oriented megalithic bed of the approximately centrally located polygonal dole is 25 m long and 7.0 m wide. 33 of the curbs on the hill have been preserved or added to. The well-preserved pentagonal chamber of 2.5 × 2.5 m has an entrance in the southeast, from which a pair of bearing stones has been preserved. From here a 29 m long ramp leads over the moor onto the dry land.
