Hinrich Pape

Hinrich Pape (* in Lübeck ; † May 14, 1359 ibid) was a merchant, councilor and mayor of Lübeck .

Life

Pape was the son of the mayor of Lübeck, Arnold Pape. He was elected to the council in 1332 and appointed mayor in 1342 . In the same year, together with councilor Nicolaus Schoneke, he represented the city in negotiations with the muggers Crummendiek and Henneke Hummelsbullen because of the robberies on the highway between Hamburg and Lübeck. In 1343 he was the city's envoy to King Magnus II of Sweden.

Pape lived in his father's house at 29 Breite Strasse . He was married twice, his second marriage to a sister of Councilor Hinrich von Alen. His brother Willekin Pape was canon and 1347/48 bishop of Schwerin .

Pape was buried in St. Catherine's Church, where his tombstone, a coat of arms slab, has been preserved.
