The rear castle Henfstädt at Mittleren Dorfstrasse 68 in Henfstädt is the main building of a former manor , built between 1595 and 1596 .

history

The estate was one of the castle estates of the Osterburg . Parts of the main building date from the 12th century. In the 16th century it belonged to a von Zufraß family .

After Wolf Zufraß's death, the fiefdom fell back to the Counts of Henneberg . Georg Ernst von Henneberg-Schleusingen (1511–1583) gave the estate in 1580 as a fief to the Henneberg councilor Caspar von Hanstein . In 1595/1596 he had the stately mansion built in the Renaissance style, which still existed in its surrounding walls .

Harbou's family later became the owners. After the property was expropriated in 1945, the castle was first used as refugee accommodation , then as a boarding school and finally as a chicken coop and technical station for an LPG . In 1990 it was privatized to the Ramb family. She devoted herself to the maintenance of the branch with her own resources.

In 2014 the castle was listed as one of the endangered castles and manor houses in Thuringia. Thanks to the support of the German Foundation for Monument Protection and the Thuringian State Office for Monument Preservation , the castle, which was in danger of collapsing, was secured between 2015 and 2017. The roof was repaired and re-covered. Inside, the ceilings and floors were secured enough that it can be entered again.
