Hiro Fujikake

Hiro Fujikake ( Japanese 藤 掛 廣 幸 , Fujikake Hiroyuki ; born January 31, 1949 ) is a Japanese composer . Hiro Fujikake is the pseudonym of Hiroyuki Fujikake .

Life

In 1964 he began his musical training at high school. He later studied composition at the Aichi Prefectural Art College in Nagakute , where he obtained a bachelor's degree after four years and the “Master of Music” after three more years.

Since then he has won numerous prizes for his compositions, such as the “Ongakunotomo Composition Prize” for “Two Poems for Chorus” in 1970, the second prize of the “ NHK Mainichi Music Competition” for “Threnody” in 1974, the "All-Japanese Band Association Test Piece Composition Prize" for "Concertino Overture" 1975, the composition prize of the Japanese Mandolin Union (JMU) for "Pastoral Fantasy" in 1975, first prize at the "Sasagawa Competition" for "Nostalgic Rhapsody" (1975) and “Chaconne” (1976), the “Japan Symphony Foundation Composition Prize” for the “Song of Spring” in 1990 and, above all, the grand prize of the Concours Musical Reine Elisabeth in Belgium for the symphonic work “the Rope Crest” in 1977.

His compositional work is varied, including symphonies, operas, ballets and musicals, pieces for concert bands , plucked orchestras and traditional Japanese instruments. He works for radio, television, film and for special occasions such as exhibitions and fairs, e.g. B. the 1989 World Design Exhibition in Nagoya .

In addition to his work as a composer, he also plays the synthesizer in his solo band (a synthesizer orchestra that is computer controlled). But usually he is accompanied by Japanese taiko drummers, mandolin players and players of Chinese musical instruments .

He has recorded two CDs with flautist James Galway , including the CD The Enchanted Forest , which was in the Billboard Top 10 charts (classical crossover area) for five months.

He is a member of the project committee of the Nippon Music Foundation.

style

In his works you can hear a union of Eastern and Western music. Sometimes he also integrates jazz or rock music . Natural elements also appear in his work because he spent his early childhood in Higashi-Shirakawa, surrounded by mountains and a river with clear water.
