Hiroshi Nishihara ( Japanese 西 原 寛 , Nishihara Hiroshi ; born March 21, 1955 ) is a Japanese chemist and professor of chemistry at the University of Tokyo . He heads the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory and is known for his research on the synthesis and electrochemistry of conductive coordination polymers.

He is concerned with the development of new electro- and photo-functional materials based on transition metals and chain-like π systems as well as with electron transfer systems using molecular interfaces. His research areas include coordination chemistry , organometallic chemistry , electrochemistry , photochemistry, and nanomaterials . Nishihara is currently the Vice President of the Electrochemical Society of Japan and the Japanese representative of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE).
