The Hirschkanal in the Hardtwald

Building history

The Hirschkanal was laid out from 1818 to 1820 as a branch of the Alte Bach for watering game in the Karlsruhe Hardtwald. Part of its original route was taken over from the Pfinz relief canal in the 1930s as part of the Pfinz-Saalbach correction . When the Pfinz floods , the Hirsch Canal serves to drain water from the Pfinz relief canal to the Lower Rhine Canal .

course

At the intersection of the Pfinz relief canal with Grabener Allee, the Hirschkanal branches off to the north. It runs parallel to Grabener Allee past the North Campus of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and flows into the Alte Bach between Graben and Hochstetten . The water from the Hirsch Canal and the Alte Bach flows over the Extended Pfinz Canal into the Lower Rhine Canal.
