Hisham Tawfiq

Hisham Tawfiq (born May 17, 1970 in New York City ) is an American actor . His best-known role is that of Dembe Zuma in the series The Blacklist , which he has played as part of the main cast since season 3. Previously, he was in the same role for two seasons as a supporting actor.

Life

Tawfiq discovered his passion for art and acting in high school. He then studied at the Negro Ensemble Theater Company. Before working as an actor, he was a soldier in the United States Marine Corps and worked as a turnkey at Sing Sing Prison from 1994 to 1996 . He also served as a firefighter with the New York City Fire Department . He practiced this job for almost 20 years parallel to his acting career. He only quit this post after he was promoted to lead actor on The Blacklist .

He had intermittent acting roles, mostly as a guest actor, in the series Lights Out , Law & Order: Special Victims Unit , Criminal Intent - Verbrechen im Visier , Kings , Golden Boy and 30 Rock .
