Hispidoberyx ambagiosus is a small, known only by five copies of deep sea fish from the order of mucus-like head (Beryciformes).

Distribution and way of life

It has so far been found in the northeast Indian Ocean near Sumatra and Java , as well as in the South China Sea and south of New Caledonia at depths of 560 to 1020 meters. Hispidoberyx ambagiosus probably lives pelagic just above the sea floor and feeds on crustaceans .

features

The fish has spiky scales, a long, thick spike on the gill cover and becomes 18 centimeters long. There are 32 to 34 scales along the lateral line , the number of vertebrae is 34. The palatine bone and ploughshare bone (vomer) have teeth.

Fin formula : dorsal IV – V / 10, anal II – III / 9, ventral I / 6–7.
