Boğazköy-Alacahöyük Historical National Park
The Historical National Park Boğazköy-Alacahöyük ( Turkish Boğazköy-Alacahöyük Tarihi Milli Parkı ) is located in the Turkish province of Çorum in Central Anatolia , in the historical region of Cappadocia . It covers an area of 2634 ha and was declared a national park in 1988 .
The area of the national park includes the archaeological excavation sites of Hattuša , the capital of the Hittite Empire , and the associated Yazılıkaya sanctuary , which are near the Turkish town of Boğazkale (formerly Boğazköy) , and of Alaca Höyük , a settlement mound from the Hittite and Hittite times. Hattuša and Yazılıkaya have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986 .
The area of the national park consists of two parts, one of which includes Boğazkale, Hattuša and Yazılıkaya. It has a diameter of about five kilometers and is at 40 ° 0 '57' N , 34 ° 37 '15 " O . The second part encloses only the excavation area of Alacahöyük, has a diameter of about 300 meters and is 40 ° 14 '4 " N , 34 ° 41' 44" O . The sub-areas are about 25 km apart.
