The historical circular route through the “Forbidden City” is an eleven kilometer circular route in Zossen , a town in the Teltow-Fläming district in Brandenburg . It opens up the area around the Waldstadt , a formerly independent part of the municipality of the Wünsdorf district . An imperial training area with a garrison was established there in 1910. The command center of the German Army Command (OKH) followed in 1935 and, from 1945, the main command post of the Group of Soviet Armed Forces in Germany (GSSD) and the Soviet 16th Air Army .

The city of Zossen has set up four information boards along the circular route, which provide an introduction to the route. One is located at Wünsdorf train station. There was once a military station there, which enabled a 1,926 km long direct connection to Moscow from 1953 to 1994 . From there, the route runs in a north-easterly direction to Bundesstraße 96 , on which there was an army bakery and the army catering office from 1936 to 1945 . From 1954 to 1994 the facilities were used as a bread factory and warehouse for military goods.

Along the B 96, the route leads around 1.7 kilometers to the northwest, where it branches off into Friedrich-Raue-Straße to the east. There are three partly preserved bunkers of the Winkel type in the direction of Martin-Luther-Straße . Other bunkers of this type are located in the northern area on Gutenbergstrasse at the Roter Stern Museum and the Wünsdorf Garrison Museum . The former guard building of the Zossen main camp from 1912 to 1994 can be reached via Schwanenallee around 600 meters away.

In a north-easterly direction, along Fritz-Jaeger-Allee and Zehrensdorfer Strasse , is the officers' casino from 1912 to 1919. It was used again as a casino from 1934 to 1945, and from 1954 to 1994 as the house of the 16. Air Army. To the east follow a water tower built in 1912 and the book and bunker town founded in 1998 . Another information board at the car park shows the way to the Waldstadion, built in 1912, to the south. At a distance of 1.3 km, the Koschewoi Ring branches off in a south-westerly direction and leads to the Lutz barracks , where the 5th Panzer Regiment was based from 1935 to 1941. In a south-easterly direction, the circular route connects the Zehrensdorf cemetery of honor and leads for another 600 meters to a parking lot on Landstrasse 74 with another information board.

In a south-westerly direction about 1.6 kilometers away is the military gymnasium (1916–1933), which served as an army sports school from 1913 to 1940 and as the officers' house from 1954 to 1994. To the north is the Army Motorization School (1940–1945) as well as dormitories and apartments for officer's families, as well as School No. 1 (1954–1994). If the visitor follows the Koschewoi-Ring , after a further kilometer he will reach the central building of the 193rd tank repair plant, which had a gross floor area of 12,000 square meters from 1951 to 1994. To the south-west is the teaching class building of the armored troop school (1935-1943), which served from 1953 to 1994 as the headquarters of the commander-in-chief of the group of Soviet troops in Germany. Along the main avenue , in a south-westerly direction, lies the on-site hospital with a memorial for Rosa Luxemburg, and on the north side the officers' mess of the armored troop school (1935–1943), which served as the Unvermag department store from 1954 to 1994 . The town hall has been there since 1998. Here is the fourth information board of the circular route, which leads north over the B 96 back to the train station.
