Participants in the Terra Nova Expedition (1910-1913) led by polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott made the name. The namesake is the Swedish company BA Hjorth & Co. of the Swedish entrepreneur Berndt August Hjorth (1862–1937) based in Stockholm , manufacturer of the primary cooker used on this research trip .
