The Church of St. Sava ( Serbian : Црква Светог Саве, Crkva Svetog Save) is a Serbian Orthodox church in the village of Polom in the municipality of Bratunac in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina .

The branch church , built from 1989 to 1990, is dedicated to St. Sava of Serbia , the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church and national saint.

It belongs to the parish of Kravica in the deanery Srebrenica - Podrinje of the Zvornik-Tuzla eparchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

location

The village of Polom is located in the northeastern part of the Republika Srpska on the Drina , which here forms the border with Serbia . The place had 436 inhabitants at the 2013 census and consists of the hamlets Donji Polom, Gornji Polom, Jokići, Križine, Polom and Simići.

Until 1998, Polom and his church belonged to the parish Drinjača in Opština Zvornik . The church book entries for Polom were kept in the church books of the parish of Drinjača until 1998. Since 1998 they have been listed in the parish registers of the Kravica parish.

Besides Polom, the parish of Kravica includes the following villages: Kravica , Repovac , Hranča and Ježeštica . The current parish priest is Nenad Đurić (as of 2018). Next to the church is the village's primary school.

history

The construction of the church began in 1989 based on a design by Dragan Ignjatović from Drinjača. In the same year the then bishop of the eparchy Zvornik-Tuzla Vasilije (Kačavenda) blessed the church foundations. On July 18, 1990, Bishop Vasilije (Kačavenda) solemnly consecrated the Church of St. Sava.

architecture

The church measures 14 × 7 m. In 1990, Polom-born Todor Radović made the iconostasis of the church from Scots pine . The old icons from the Church of St. Apostles Peter and Paul in Vlasenica were placed on the iconostasis . The church is built in the Serbian-Byzantine style .
