Hobusch

Christoph Gottlieb Leopold Hobusch (* probably November 3, 1819 in Dessau ; † February 17, 1866 there ) was a casual worker and the well-known Dessau original , called Hobusch .

Hobusch was a special citizen who became known in Dessau with a lot of wit and his great quick wittedness. Many of his stories, the so-called Hobuschiaden , have been handed down to this day in the old Dessau dialect, first orally and later also in writing. He achieved local fame mainly because of his lack of respect for the ducal-Anhaltinian authorities, which had their residence in Dessau, as well as his often-used puns. Hobusch's other nicknames are "Dessauer Sonnenkopp" (which is also generally used for all native Dessau residents) and "Dessauer Eulenspiegel ".

After his death, the factory owner Max Schulze launched a liqueur from 1920 under the name “ Hobusch - Alter Dessauer Original Semi-Dark Liqueur ”, which is still extremely popular in Dessau-Roßlau and continues to be a typical souvenir . Schulze also financed the tombstone on Hobusch's grave, but not until the end of the 19th century, many years after his death. Today's tombstone on Historic Cemetery I in today's Dessau-Roßlau bears the inscription on its back: “Much laughed at, little respected, poor in property, rich in wit”. It was made in 1991 by the stonemason company Melchert and inaugurated on February 20, 1992. The date of death was incorrectly stated as February 20, 1866: Christoph Hobusch was buried on this day.

Hobuschgasse in downtown Dessau-Roßlau is named after Hobusch. In addition, a mural was made in his honor in the old Dessau Ratskeller , which was lost (among other things) in 1945 after the impact of the bomb. Today a small sandstone figure made in 1995 by the Dessau stonemason company Melchert decorates the corner house Askanische- / Steinstraße.
