The high bridge along Landesstrasse 12 in Wismar in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was built in 1970 and was once the longest prestressed concrete bridge in the GDR . It leads partly over the mill pond .

After the Rostocker Straße, the only arterial road in the east, had developed into a bottleneck due to increased traffic, the decision to build the bridge was made at the end of the 1960s. The 398 meter long structure was inaugurated on August 7, 1970. The construction costs amounted to 15.3 million GDR marks .

Due to the poor subsoil and the resulting difficulties with the statics, the bridge was completely overhauled in 2004 and 2005. The traffic routing and the design of the footpaths were also changed.

In 2012, 19,000 vehicles drove over the bridge every day, which was closed to heavy goods vehicles over 12 tons in September 2011 due to construction defects. The Schwerin Road Construction Office then announced that the structure would only be usable for ten years. As a substitute, six different variants were then discussed.
