location

The bunker is located in Munich's Obersendling district at Boschetsrieder Straße 68 on the east side of Albert-Bayerle-Platz, which forms the northeast corner of the Boschetsrieder Straße / Hofmannstraße intersection.

history

The bunker was built in 1941 as an air defense tower based on plans by Karl Meitinger . It was designed for 437 people and served the workers of the Obersendling industrial plants as a refuge in the event of an air alarm. Today, after it was sold in 2010 by the Federal Real Estate Agency , it is owned by a private investor.

description

A seven-storey tower with a tent roof rises above a square floor plan of around 13 × 13 m . On the south side the tower has an entrance at street level, on the west side a flight of stairs leads to an entrance on the upper floor. On three sides, each floor has a diagonally-concreted air intake opening in the central axis to protect the occupants from bomb splinters and still ensure the supply of fresh air. The corners of the tower are rusticated and under the roof a cornice runs around the building.
