The Ebenseer Hochkogelhaus is an alpine refuge belonging to the Naturfreunde Ebensee in the western part of the Dead Mountains . The hut is located in a depression directly in front of the local mountain, the Hochkogel , and offers an ideal starting point for climbing the Schönberg . The hut is supplied by a material cable car that starts at the Mittereckeralm and was built in the early 1960s.

A highlight of the hut operation is the Hochkogel giant slalom, which takes place every year on the first weekend in April.

history

The emergency shelter built on the Hochkogel in 1921 was replaced by the Ebenseer Naturfreundehaus , which opened on August 3, 1924 . After the construction of the material ropeway, the hut was expanded to its present size in the 1960s and 1970s.
