The Schönberg or Wildenkogel is 2093  m above sea level. A. high summit in Ausseerland on the border between Styria and Upper Austria . It forms the highest point in the western Dead Mountains .

Surname

Due to its rugged appearance in the north, the mountain in Ebensee is called Wildenkogel , while seen from the Ausseerland and Bad Ischl it appears gentle and is referred to as Schönberg . The name Schönberg is derived from the dialectically similar sounding Schellenberg , which refers to the round shape of the summit structure.

location

Towards the north, the mountain made up of Dachstein limestone from the Upper Triassic breaks off steeply to the Offenseetal. In the south it towers over the plateau of the Dead Mountains overgrown with mountain pines towards the Loser . The Schönberg forms a double peak. In the west is the lower peak with 2090  m , while the main peak 2093  m high is about 150 m further east. A summit book is available at the summit cross on the western summit of Schönberg.

Approaches

  • From the Rettenbachalm ( 636  m ) on path 211 to the Ischler Hütte ( 1368  m ). From there on the marked path no. 211/226 to the summit at 2093  m . Walking time around five hours.
  • From the Blaa-Alm ( 894  m ) over the insured Naglsteig (path no.226) to the Ischler Hütte and from there over path no.211 / 226 to the summit, walking time around six hours.
  • From the Ischler Hütte ( 1368  m ) on path no. 211/226 to the summit, walking time around 2½ hours.
  • From Ebenseer Hochkogelhaus ( 1558  m ) via the marked paths no.230 and 211/227 to the summit, walking time around two hours.

Transitions

Via the marked path no. 228/230/231 with an easy climbing section to the Rinnerkogel ( 2012  m ), walking time around two hours.
