The University Beder , 2018. University is a private, non-profit university in the Albanian capital Tirana . She is close to the Gülen movement .
The institution, planned as Albania's first Islamic university, was founded in April 2011 by the Muslim Community of Albania as a neutral university with a focus on the humanities; the Muslims are the largest religious community in Albania with 60 percent . She thus completes the course of education with a university degree, which began with the reopening of the madrasas and Koran schools in 1991. The university's aim is to impart science and logical thinking to people while at the same time preserving traditional Islamic values.
Bedër University has about 50 employees and 485 students, most of the foreign students come from Turkey . The university is a co-educational institution. It offers Bachelor, Master of Science, and professional Masters degrees in Albanian and English . Two Bachelor programs are offered entirely in the language of instruction, English. On June 3, 2013, Bedër signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Tirana . The two have already started building a modern campus in the southern suburb of Sauk . There is also cooperation with Epoka University .
The name of the Bedër University is derived from Bedr , which means "full moon" (بدر) means in Arabic . The Albanian name is Shkolla e lartë Hëna e Plotë . The current rector of the university is Ferdinand Gjana .
On August 5, 2014, the university had to cease its activities until further notice after being requested to do so by the Ministry of Education, which had discovered administrative deficiencies. It cannot accept or transfer any new students for two years.
