Sauk is slightly elevated on a hilltop between the Ishëm and Erzen rivers . The Great Park of Tirana extends between Tirana and Sauk .

Sauk has been inhabited since the 12th or 13th century and was first mentioned as Suket in 1431 .

Until 2015, part of Sauk belonged to the municipality of Farka , which with 22,633 inhabitants (2011) was one of the largest non-urban municipalities in the country. The seat of the municipality of Farka was in Sauk. The larger, northern part of Sauk has always been part of the Tirana municipality.

The national road SH3 and the A3 motorway , here part of the Tirana bypass, run through Sauk . Several bus lines connect Sauk with the city center. In the south of the village is the Tirana East Gate shopping center .

In 1958 the soil was collectivized ; Until the 1990s Sauk had a primarily agricultural character. After the collapse of the communist regime, strong, often illegal, settlement began in Sauk, as it did in the whole area around the capital.

The Academy of the Albanian Police , the Muslim Bedër University , an SOS Children's Village and an Austrian school named after Hermann Gmeiner are located in Sauk .
