geography
location
Farka in the south of Tirana |
Farka is located in the hills south of the Albanian capital, around ten kilometers from the city center. In the meantime the development of the city extends to the area of Farka. A distinction is made between the two villages of Farka e madhe (large Farka) and Farka e vogël (small Farka) . The Dajti rises to the east ( 1613 m above sea level ). To the northwest of the two villages lies Farka Lake , around two kilometers long , a reservoir with a dam that is around 350 meters long. A small park of 9.8 hectares surrounds the lake, which is to become a destination for excursions and a local recreation area for the residents of Tirana.
For a long time Farka and the surrounding area had a rural character. Until 2001 the population had declined sharply. Since then, however, it has grown many times over: the capital is gradually expanding into the surrounding area, and Farka is increasingly developing into a residential area. The immigrants from other areas of Albania come mainly from the Qark Vlora and somewhat less frequently from the Qarqet Elbasan , Fier and Gjirokastra .
Former parish
The municipality of Farke, which was dissolved in 2015, comprised Farka e madhe and Farka e vogël further villages south of the city of Tirana: Lundra, Mjull-Bathore, Selita and parts of Sauk .
In 2011 the community had 22,633 inhabitants. This made Farka one of the largest rural-type communities (komuna) in Albania.
history
The area has been used as a settlement site since the Iron Age . The name farka is also derived from the blacksmiths located here.
In 1956 the farmers of the region were collectivized . As a result, livestock, viticulture and olive growing were mainly carried out in Farka .
traffic
The national road 3 , which leads south from Tirana , runs a little west of Farka. The eastern part of the ring road around Tirana is currently (2019) being built across Farka. A five-kilometer section of the A3 motorway near the Tirana East Gate shopping center was completed in December 2017, but has not yet been opened to traffic. The bypass will continue north to the eastern districts of Tirana and Dajt .
The Tirana-Farka military heliport (Baza Ajrore Farkë) is located in Farka e madhë .
