The Qark Vlora ( Albanian  Qarku i Vlorës ) is one of the twelve Qarks in Albania . It is located in southern Albania and has an area of ​​2706 square kilometers. The capital is Vlora .

geography

The Qark Vlora consists of the municipalities Delvina , Finiq , Himara , Konispol , Saranda , Selenica and Vlora . The area extends along the coast of the Adriatic and in particular the Ionian Sea with the Albanian Riviera . In the south the Qark borders on Greece . Along the Ionian Sea, the coast is steep with high mountains in the hinterland, including parts of the Kurvelesh . The Shushica flows through the northern part of the Qark, in the southern it is the Bistrica . Other notable waters north of the city of Vlora, the lagoon of Narta and the far south to Greece out of Lake Butrint . Sazan is one of the few islands in Albania and is also administered by the Qark Vlora.

To the north of the Qark lies Qark Fier and to the east the Qark Gjirokastra .

Until 2015 the Qark was divided into the three districts Delvina , Saranda and Vlora with 26 municipalities.

The 2011 census recorded 175,640 residents. The population decline of not quite 5% in ten years is well below the Albanian average.

A Greek- speaking minority lives in the Qart , particularly in the municipality of Finiq and on the Albanian Riviera, but also in the village of Narta near Vlora.

42.14% of the residents are Muslims , mainly Sunnis . The Shiite- dominated Sufi Order of the Bektashi makes further 1.08% of the population. 13.74% of the population are Orthodox , 1.98% Catholic , 0.06% Protestant and 0.07% other Christians. Confessing people without religion make up 10.97% of the population, atheists 6.01%. 20.92% of the population give no information about their denomination.

Politics and administration

The Qark Council ( Albanian  Këshilli i Qarkut ) has 59 members.

The Qark Vlora has twelve members out of a total of 140 for the legislative periods of the Albanian parliament beginning in 2009 and 2013 .
