Orikum ( Albanian  also  Orikumi ) is a place in southern Albania , which belongs to the municipality ( bashkia ) Vlora . The place is about 15 kilometers south of Vlora.

Orikum was an independent Bashkia until 2015. The area of the former municipality covered 314 square kilometers at the southern end of the Bay of Vlora , from where it extended south into the hinterland to the Llogara Pass . The Karaburun Peninsula and Sazan Island were also part of it. In addition to the town of Orikum, the municipality also included the villages of Radhima , Tragjas (1288 inhabitants), Dukat i Ri (2961 inhabitants) and Dukat i Vjetër (1604 inhabitants) - a total population of 5500 inhabitants (2011 census). The local authorities, on the other hand, give twice as high a number of 11,000 inhabitants.

The place Orikum is located at the southeast end of the bay about one kilometer from the shore. Almost half of the population live here. The national road 8 (SH 8) passes the place on the eastern edge of the village and continues from Vlora to Himara and Saranda . It is over eleven kilometers from Orikum to the mountain village of Dukat. In the other direction, Radhima is over five kilometers from the center of the municipality.

The beaches on the Bay of Vlora and the city have developed rapidly in terms of tourism in recent years. Numerous hotels, apartment houses, restaurants and a marina have been built. The rest of the municipality is very rural and mountainous. In the Maja e Çikës in the very south, at 2045  m above sea level. A. reached the highest point. Large parts of the community are under nature protection, for example the Llogara National Park . There is an important lagoon at the edge of the bay .

In the southwest of the bay is the Pashaliman naval base , one of the two main bases of the Albanian navy . Today ships for the Albanian Navy are built there. Pashaliman , Turkish for port of the pasha , has been used as a port for thousands of years. During the Cold War it was temporarily a Soviet naval base - the only one in the Mediterranean region .

The ancient Oricum lies in the area of the military base . The Greek colony was on a small hill by the sea with an acropolis and a theater. The excavations in the Oricum Archeology Park are currently difficult to access for visitors - especially for foreigners - because they are located within the naval base.

The church of Marmiroi is located southwest of the village . The small building on a hill in the middle of a swamp is partly dated to the early 10th century, in other sources to the 13th century. In the village of Tragjas there is the castle of Gjon Boçari , in Dukat the towers of Dervish Ali .
