The Llogara National Park ( Albanian : Parku Kombëtar i Llogarasë ) is located in the Ceraunic Mountains in southern Albania about 40 km southeast of Vlora . He is from the national road SH 8 , which over the 1027  m above sea level. A. high Llogara pass leads, crossed.

The national park was founded in 1966 and covers an area of ​​1010 hectares. The park protects in particular the mountain forest of pines and bushes on the north side of the Llogara pass at an altitude between 470  m and 2018  m above sea level. A.

This consists mainly of black pines (Pinus nigra) , snake-skin pines (Pinus heldreichii) , Bulgarian firs (Abies borisii-regis) and ash trees . Individual trees with specially shaped branches even have names.

Wild goats and deer are rare in the area. Wolf , fox , stone marten and wildcat are even more common. The alpine stone hen is one of the most common birds . Even golden eagles , griffon vulture , Egyptian vulture , raven , sparrow hawks and owls living around Llogara.

Activities and facilities

In the national park there are several restaurants and hotels along the road that serve as excursion destinations. There is the possibility of hiking and trekking tours in the park and the surrounding mountains. The southern slope of the Llogara pass - outside the national park - is a launch site for paragliders , which is used every year for an international competition.

A visitor center was opened in January 2019.

History

In the area around the national park there are caves with prehistoric rock carvings.
