The Rruga shtetërore SH8 ( Albanian for state road SH8 ) is a national road in Albania . It connects the industrial city of Fier with the southern Albanian tourist stronghold of Saranda and leads largely through the mountainous terrain of the Albanian Riviera along the Ionian Sea .

Route

The SH8 branches off from the SH4 in Fier and leads via the small town of Levan to the port city of Vlora . From Vlora the road leads over the Llogara pass ( 1027  m above sea level ) to the Albanian Riviera near Dhërmi and on through Himara to Saranda, where the SH99 branches off, which leads to the SH4 in Dropull . The SH8 ends in Saranda city center.

State of development

While the A2 motorway between Levan and Vlora was built parallel to the SH4 and the SH4 itself is in poor condition, from Vlora it is a winding coastal road that was completely renovated in 2008 and is now in very good condition . This measure primarily served to promote tourism .
