Previously there were two communities in southern Dropull: Dropull i Sipërm (Upper Dropull) with 971 inhabitants and Dropull i Poshtëm (Lower Dropull) with 2100 inhabitants (both 2011). The villages in the Drino Valley inhabited by Greeks include Derviçan , Glina , Jorgucat , Sofratika , Dhuvjan , Frashtan , Kakavija , Bularat , Bodrishta and Vodhina .

history

At Sofratika, the ruins of the Hadrianopolis theater testify to an important Greco-Roman city in the middle of the plain, which was named after the Roman emperor Hadrian . During the 6th century, the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I moved the settlement to the present-day village of Peshkëp in southeastern Dropull in order to build a fortified city against the barbarian invasions in a more suitable location . In Byzantine sources this is also called Ioustinianoupolis . Ruins, parts of the aqueduct and remains of churches can still be seen today. In the 11th century the place was called Dryinoupolis . It is believed that this name derives from the old or the nearby Drino river . Since the 5th century the place was also a bishopric.

Due to the poor economic situation in the region, many residents emigrated to the United States of America .
