The Theth National Park ( Albanian  Parku Kombëtar Thethi ) is a national park in northern Albania . It extends around the village of Theth and is located in the middle of the Albanian Alps . The national park covers an area of 2630 hectares and was established in 1966.

Attractions

It protects a mountain world with mountain forests, endemic plants and wild animals. The impressive mountain panorama with high rock faces - the south face of the Arapi is the highest rock face on the Balkan Peninsula - and some of Albania's highest mountain peaks such as the Jezerca and the Radohima make the national park an area of great tourist interest that is well suited for small and large hikes.

At the foot of the Arapi there is Albania's largest horizontal cave , but it is not open to tourists.

Other sights are the Grunas waterfall and a deeply cut, very narrow gorge south of the village of Theth. In the village itself there is still the Gjeçaj waterfall and cultural assets to be seen.

Information sign in Theth

The national park is difficult to reach 70 kilometers from Shkodra in the deeply cut valley of the Shala . In the village of Theth, where an unpaved pass road leads over the Qafa e Thorës , there are numerous overnight accommodations. Another gravel road leads south into the Shala valley; However, this is only accessible with off-road vehicles. There is a foot connection between the Theth National Park and the Valbonatal National Park via the Qafa e Valbonës .

The GTZ and other foreign aid organizations promote eco-tourism projects in the national park.
