The Karaburun-Sazan Marine National Park ( Albanian  Parku Kombëtar Detar Karaburun-Sazan ) is a marine reserve in southern Albania , which is designated as a national park. The park covers an area one nautical mile deep along the coast of the Karaburun Peninsula and around the Sazan Island . The northern parts belong to the Adriatic Sea , the southern to the Ionian Sea - the Strait of Otranto ends at Cape Kepi Gjuhëzës on Karaburun, the westernmost point of the Albanian mainlandthat separates the two seas.

The park covers an area of 12,571 hectares, of which 2722 hectares are off Sazan and 9849 hectares off Karaburun, which protect around 50 kilometers of coastline. The waters in front of the pier on Karaburun and the southern part of the Bay of Vlora in front of Karaburun are not protected - both in the sphere of influence of bases of the Albanian Navy . The Karaburun peninsula and the Rrëza e Kanalit range of hills to the south are also a nature reserve that borders the Llogara National Park in the south .

The park was established by the Prime Minister's decree from 2010.

The wrecks of many ancient Greek and Roman ships as well as warships from the Second World War lie in the national park . There is a rich marine flora and a lot of cliffs with large caves and secluded bays with sandy beaches. In Grama Bay , seamen who anchored here for millennia have left inscriptions on the rocks.

The area is very remote, undeveloped and unspoiled. It can only be reached by sea or on foot, as the only road to the uninhabited Karaburun peninsula is through the Orikum naval base . Sazan Island is not accessible as a military base. Boat trips are offered from Vlora that lead to the Haxhi Ali cave . The cave , named after a pirate  from Ulcinj in the 18th century , is the largest sea cave in Albania: It is 30 meters long and has an entrance ten meters wide. In the summer of 2012, a monk seal , an extremely rare species, was sighted in waters west of the Karaburun Peninsula .
