Finiq ( Albanian  also  Finiqi ; Greek Φοινίκη ) is a small village in southern Albania . It is located in the northern part of the Vurgo plain between the cities of Saranda and Delvina , around eight kilometers from the sea.

The ruins of ancient Phoinike can be found on a long hill east of the village . The current place name is derived from this name. Another attraction in the area is the Church of St. Nicholas of Mesopotam .

Many residents have Greek as their mother tongue.

Until 2015 Finiq was a small municipality ( komuna ) with 1333 inhabitants (2011 census). The local authorities, however, give a number of 6350 inhabitants. The villages of Vrion, Çlirim, Vromero / Bregas, Karahaxh, Shën-Jan / Blerimas and Mavropull / Buronja also belonged to the municipality. In 2015, other municipalities inhabited by Greeks in southern Albania were also incorporated. These include Aliko (3849 inhabitants), Dhivër (1396 inhabitants), Livadhja (1165 inhabitants) and Mesopotam (2786 inhabitants). Most of the municipalities used to belong to Saranda County, in contrast to Finiq and Mesopotam, which belonged to Delvina County . The new municipality has 10,529 inhabitants (as of 2011).

Irini Qirjako , who is one of the most popular folk singers in southern Albania, was born in Finiq .
