The Považská Bystrica elevated road ( Estakáda Považská Bystrica in Slovak , Most 206 in structural terms ) is a prestressed concrete motorway bridge along the D1 motorway at around its 170th kilometer, which leads directly over the town of Považská Bystrica . It is the central structure of the Sverepec – Vrtižer section, which was opened on May 31, 2010 after several delays, thereby relieving the old state road through the city.

The bridge is a combination of cable-stayed and girder bridges , the so-called extradosed bridge . It is 968 meters long and consists of 10 spans, six of which on the central cable-stayed bridge are 122 meters long and crosses the urban area of Považská Bystrica and the Waag river at the north end. The “Považská Bystrica-centrum” junction was built there to connect the city to the motorway. The superstructure has two lanes plus hard shoulder in each direction.

The planning of the elevated road began in 2001 when several tunnel variants around the city were rejected due to high construction costs. This decision met with strong resistance from the citizens, so that the start of construction was postponed several times. The lawsuits, which went to the Supreme Court, were rejected. Construction began in August 2008 and the bridge was cantilevered . First the seven pillars were built, then the superstructure, which was completed in January 2010.

The design is complemented by the green and white paintwork and night lighting. Together with the Eurovea construction project in Bratislava, the building received the “Building of the Year 2010” award (Slov. Stavba roka 2010 ).
