The Hodzana River is a 200 km long right tributary of the Yukon River in central Alaska .
It rises in the Interior , flows first in an easterly, then in a southeasterly direction and flows into the Yukon River almost 20 km southwest of Beaver . The entire course of the Hodzana River except for the first kilometers lies in the Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge .
The native name for the river was published in 1899 in the Edwards Track Chart of the Yukon as "Hosiana", which means "male beaver". The name is also used for the Hodzana Slough , an arm of the Yukon in the mouth of the Hodzana River. In 1907, the Dean Hudson Stuck recommended the United States Board on Geographic Names to use today's spelling because it better reflected the pronunciation of the natives.
