history

Courtyard: New Castle, Baroque (1750)
Old castle courtyard. Renaissance around 1540.

The old castle was built around 1540 for Christoph von Schleinitz . The ballroom on the upper floor is adorned with one of the most beautiful Renaissance ceilings in Saxony, which was installed at the beginning of the 17th century. The coffered ceiling contains 88 pictures with depictions of gardens and palaces as well as symbolic scenes surrounded by Latin sayings. Today the old castle is the seat of the municipality of Naundorf.

In 1690 the estate came to the hands of the Imperial Counts of Zinzendorf and Pottendorf , who had emigrated from Lower Austria to Saxony due to their Protestant beliefs. Friedrich Christian Reichsgraf and Herr von Zinzendorf and Pottendorf (1697–1756) had the New Palace built next to the Old Palace around 1750, which now houses a primary school. The baroque building consists of two wings with a tall, slender stair tower whose onion dome dates from 1905. The facades were provided with an elegant, illusionistic painting, which was reconstructed in a test axis. The manor was dissolved in 1932 and since then both castles have been owned by the municipality.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Salbitz was incorporated.
