Location of Salbitz in Saxony

Salbitz is a district of the municipality of Naundorf in the district of North Saxony in Saxony .

history

First settlements

Around 2000 BC The first people settled in the area around Salbitz. Salbitz was first mentioned in 1150 in the record book of the Meissen Monastery. The urns and stone weapons found in large numbers around Salbitz and Rochzahn date from the time of the Hermundurs , who were driven out by the Sorbs who invaded around 550 AD . Many of these relics are also still hidden in the Mark Gaumnitz, between Salbitz and Casabra .

Conquest of the castle around 1000

Around 928, after a 20-day siege , King Heinrich conquered Gana Castle and left it to the warriors to plunder. He then moved on to the Elbe and built Meißen Castle there . Emperor Otto I , the son of Heinrich I, built many castle guards in the area in order to tame the Daleminzians who resisted Christianization, as was the case in the castle warden "Gana" in Jahna . It is said to have stood on the Kellerberg, at the current location of the Jahna cemetery. The Burgwart an der Jahna is first mentioned in a document in 1150. This year the Margrave Conrad von Meißen is supposed to pay donations from Zelewitz, "Burgwart an der Gana", to a chapel in the Burggrafenhof in Meißen, in order to cover the services of this chapel. This Zelewitz mentioned is today's Salbitz. 1428 Salbitz, Roch tooth and Weichteritz were first as Drendorffirn ( three villages mentioned). During this time, part of the village of Salbitz was under the Zöschau manor, the other part to the Meißen hereditary office, but from 1594 paid services and hoof money to the Oschatz office . Wolf von Schleinitz set up his register of inheritance in 1512. As the feudal lord and court lord of the peasants, he imposed duties and obligations on them, such as free haulage or help with the haymaking and harvest of the property. After him, Georg von Schleinitz zu Stauchitz ruled the area around Salbitz, as did Hansen von Schleinitz on the farm. Both had different views of village rights and village design. All subjects at this time succumbed to the oppressive feeling of dependence on their master. All villagers had to make cash payments, compulsory labor and deliveries in kind, mainly depending on their property.

15th century

Around 1461 Salbitz belonged to Stauchitz , Rochzahn to Oschatz and Weichteritz to Mügeln . In 1547/1764 Salbitz was an independent municipality. In 1555/1930 Salbitz was parish off to Jahna. The Conradsche Gut burned down in 1766, followed by a famine year in 1772. In the said famine year, many people from the mountains are said to have come to the area around Salbitz, on some days between 300 and 400 people, just to beg for a bite of bread. It was not uncommon for beggars to die of exhaustion here.

19th century

On January 9, 1809, Johann Andreas and Johanne Rosine Conrad were murdered. As can be read on the so-called "Murder Column" in the Jahna cemetery, Johann Andreas, born on November 20, 1743, and his wife Johanne Rosine Conrad, born on March 17, 1754, were born on the night of the 8th to the 9th. Killed to death in their beds with an ax on January 1st, 1809. The two were buried on January 12, 1809.

On May 3, 1809, the estates of the Conrad, Hanns and Thomas families burned down.

In 1837 the village school was built in Weichteritz, which was expanded in 1881 and was used as a residential building until a few years ago. Between 1912 and 1914 Salbitz was connected to the electricity network. In the two world wars (1914–1918 and 1939–1945) several citizens lost their lives or were missing. To commemorate those who lost their lives in World War I, the Salbitzers erected a memorial and carved their names into the stone. The monument still stands at the intersection of Oschatzer Straße and B169 and is lovingly cared for.

After 1945

After the Second World War, the beginning was particularly difficult for everyone. Displaced persons from Silesia also settled in Salbitz. From 1945 onwards the large estates were divided up by the land reform. In the following year the land reform land was already being built on. In 1949/50 preparations were made to incorporate the Salbitz into Hof. The incorporation took place with effect from July 1, 1950. Until then Salbitz (with Rochzahn and Weichteritz) was an independent municipality. In the following years the LPG "Ernst Thälmann" was founded. Many farmers were initially very skeptical about this. In 1970 there was the transition from type I (livestock farming in your own stables and field management together with several farmers) to type III (livestock and field management together with other farmers). Now most of the families were heavily involved in farming and their children had to be looked after. So Salbitz got a kindergarten in 1952, which was built in the current youth home. At that time there was no lunch, so the women brought their little ones home at noon and then brought them back. In 1965, the "Villa Groß-Seifert" (residential building of the "great Seifert" estate) began to be expanded to accommodate the new, more modern kindergarten. Now there was also a day nursery for the very young. In 1980 structural measures became necessary in the day-care center, which were actively supported by the GPG "Sonnenschein". Since the fall of the Wall, the municipality of Hof / Naundorf has been responsible for the facility. In 1992/93, the kindergarten and crèche were rebuilt and expanded again. To this day there have been constant building work in and around the facility, so that the day care center “Dandelion” has become a modern, integrative facility. A total of 58 children can be looked after here, of which if the capacity is reduced, up to 3 integrative children can be accepted.

When GPG Staucha - Hof merged to form GPG "Sonnenschein" in 1975, it formed a vegetable production center of 290 hectares, which over time expanded to 400 hectares. But there was not only the GPG "Sonnenschein" Staucha - Hof as an employer in this area, but also the LPG Tierproduktion Hof with stables in Salbitz and a base for plant production in Salbitz. Many women and men found work here. In Salbitz there were inns, a bakery, a blacksmith ... With the establishment of a sales point in Salbitz, which was expanded in 1965, the standard of living in the village improved. Salbitz had its own post office on Friedensstrasse, which was set up in 1985 in the former Däberitz inn, which, like Konsum, was closed after the fall of the Wall.

After reunification

The Salbitzer Heimatverein was founded in 1995 and has been hosting the village festival every year since then. Salbitz has a sports group and the Salbitzer Sensen Ladies and Salbitzer Kümmerlinge, who are successful in scythe. In May 2012 Salbitz hosted the Scythe World Championship.
